Look in the Yellow Pages for Hancock Fabrics (a fabric store) call and ask if they can recommend sewing classes.

Call or go to Wal-Mart (in Queens) and ask the salesperson in the fabric department if she knows of sewing classes/school in your area.

On West 57 (south side of street), there was, at one time, several fabric stores that taught sewing. I don't know if they still teach. There were 3 or 4 fabric stores on the block. I don't know if they are still in business.

If none of the above are helpful, Monday, (Call FIT The Fashion Institute of Technology) and ask if they can recommend a sewing class/school. FIT may have classes.

Years ago, Sears had a Sewing Center uptown. I don't see a listing for it, they are apparently out-of-business.

Unlike other areas of the USA, NYC, is unique. We can't walk out of our door and find a sewing class or a fabric store!

Google "Sewing classes in New York City" and/or try the yellow pages under sewing schools, sewing or schools.

Look in your local newspaper...in Mn they have classes like what you are talking about for a small fee at some high schools at night.
