I am 12 wks, and I have started having contractions. How do I know if somthing is wrong? I have been really sick, so dehydration is possible, but drinking water doesnt seem to help. I get them when I am just laying there.... I usually get 4 or 5 in a row. Is this normal this early? Any advice would be great....

I know I am not severly dehydrated, I had an iv less than a week ago.... I know you can have contractions as early as 6 wks, but you don't feel them until the second trimester.... I just need to know how to tell if they are somthing other than braxton hicks...... Like what are other things I can watch for?

I'm 36 wks and I started having them around 30 wks just didn't know what they were at the time. I wouldn't panic I read that you can have them in the beginning of pregnancy but you aren't supposed to have more than 5 in an hour so you would need to mention this to your healthcare provider. I was told to drink lots of water but it doesn't help me at all times either but you should try standing and walking a bit if you are laying down when you get one or having a cold drink and laying on your left side. I can understand how you feel they are more annoying and uncomfortable than painful didn't bother me much at first but now since i'm close to my due date they are becoming intense. Your main concern would be the frequency of these contractions and close count of fetal movements.

I had braxton hicks towards the end of my pregnancy. If you are only 12 weeks pregnant I don't know if Braxton hicks is what you are experiencing. If you have been dehydrated and water is not helping, try something like Propel fitness water. I would also just contact your doctor or midwife to go over your symptoms just to be on the safe side. I don't think you have any cause for concern, but good luck to you!

If you have 4 or 5 in a row and that's it, you sholdn't worry. If you think somehting is wrong you should just go to the doctor. You have Braxton Hicks all throughout the pregnancy, you just can't feel them when your uterus is still small. These contractions go away if you move a little, but if they don't and get stronger every time you should definitely go to the ER
Just check how long they last and if they don't go away. You should also check for an UTI, sometimes these are really painful and can cause a lot of problems.

I felt generally crampy off and on during the first part of my pregnancy. If the cramps are severe enough to interrupt your activity I'd check into the dr., but I also have what's known as a tipped uterus, and I have always had horrible periods. I think it was just correcting itself... because during pregnancy if you have a tipped uterus it will correct itself. If the cramps are mild you are probably dehydrated or your uterus is doing it's new work at expanding and making room for baby! Hope you are feeling better. Try adding a little salt to your water, because water alone will not make you rehydrated - you need salt so you can hang onto it. Just a small pinch should make you feel WAY better.

You need to seek medical attention. Braxton Hicks aren't normal at 12 weeks. Severe dehydration can cause a miscarriage or premature labor. GO NOW!

You're not supposed to get Braxton Hick's until you're about to give birth. I got Braxton Hick's when I was pregnant with my son, one week before giving birth to him. You need to call your doctor and tell him/her this. Something could be wrong.

Braxton-Hicks don't typically start until after your 6th month of pregnancy. You need to make an appointment with your OB ASAP.
Good luck--and call that doctor of yours! :-)
