What is the difference between passing out and fainting? My brother thinks there isn't a difference but I think there is. What is the difference, if any?

It's like a square is always a rhombus but a rhombus is not always a square. Passing out can mean fainting, but fainting is exclusive for extreme shocks, emotional distress, overload, scare, etc.... where as passing out can also include overexhaustion (like working out or running too hard) or physical trauma (like getting wasted and passing out in the toilets as has happened to me often) etc.

Technically there is no difference (both terms refer to a temporary loss of conciousness), but they do tend to be used in different context depending on your gender. "Fainting" is usually used in connection with women, while men "pass out". The two terms can be interchangable, really.

No difference.

The only way it can be conceived as different depends on the context. Sometimes people say "passing out" for falling asleep or relaxing. But otherwise, all the same.

yeah! there is a difference...Passing out is when you are too drunk or drugged out that you pass out ,,,and fainting is when you feel sick and faint....now remember..being drunk or drugged is not a natural sickness it's more like an addiction.."go figure"....we sometimes use this words the same way
