I'm not real sure about over the counter meds, but I have had a urinary tract infection and am on an antibiotic every day till I have my baby, I am 33 weeks now and have been taking med since I was 27 weeks. I know how painful this is for you, it about killed me. You can take 2 tylenol every 4 hours to help with some of the pain, that's what my dr had me to do too. Drink lots of cold water and cranberry juice, you may even want to drink like cranapple or crangrape so it tastes a little better. If you can't afford the doctor call your local health dept office and tell them the situation and surely they could help you and give you medicine and have you thought about applying for pregnant medicaid that way you could get the medical attention you need if money is a problem right now.

Evenn though your are unable to go to a dr at this time you can still call a physician office and ask the safety of a product. If you are pregnant and don't have health insurance- contact your state or local DES office for information on low cost and free insurance for pregnany mothers.
Plain water is one of the most common and simple home remedies for UTI. Drinking adequate amount of water every day flushes the urinary tract. Secondly, whenever you feel like urinating, you should do so without waiting. The longer the urine remains in your bladder, the more chances it gives to bacteria to grow if they have by any chance entered the bladder.
Cranberry juice is by far the most popular home remedy and is known to complement urinary tract infection cure in more than one ways. It is a natural way to prevent infections of the urinary tract and also speed up recovery. Six to eight ounces of pure cranberry juice everyday should suffice in most cases. Make sure to consume only pure cranberry juice as some of the drinks and cocktails have insufficient quantity of cranberry juice.
Another way to self-treat UTI is by use of vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C increases the level of acidity in your urine that in turn decreases the number of harmful bacteria in the urine.
All said and done, despite the efficacy of home remedies and preventions, it is imperative that you consult your physician for proper urinary track infection cure or bladder infection treatment.
Here is the warning from the Uristat package-
• Do not take if you have previously exhibited hypersensitivity to phenazopyridine HCl or if you have kidney trouble.
Remember that advanced age is associated with declining kidney function. Discontinue therapy if you experience
a yellowish tinge of the skin or eyes. This may indicate accumulation due to impaired kidney or liver function.
• As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional
before using this product.

Never tried them. But if I were you, I wouldn't mess around and let a UTI get out of hand. I had one turn into a kidney infection, and let me tell you that was NOT fun. But if you can't get to a dr. right away, try going to a natural foods store and buying 100% cranberry juice. Not cranberry coctail or 100% "cranberry juice" that lists things like rasperry or apple juice as the ingredients. It needs to be 100% cranberry only. It'll be about $7.00 for a bottle, but it will provide immeasurable relief. It will taste very bitter, but the bitter tannins in it will help the bacteria in your urinary tract not to be able to bond to the surface and get worse. For daily maintainance you only need about 4 oz. a day, but for an infection... well you really can't overdose on pure cranberry juice, so i'd chug as much as you can - you wouldn't be hurting yourself and might be helping a lot. I hope you feel better. I hate UTI's!!!! I am currently 35 wks. pregnant, and had about 3 UTI threats that I caught really early using cranberry juice and didn't end up needing to go to the doctor.

Unless prescribed by your doctor, Don't take it. Drink cranberry juice, If you dont like the taste of it, Try finding some cranberry pills. (work just as well, and have no effect on the baby) This may help ease the discomfort. But do see your doctor about it. It can lead to a kidney infection or send you into pre-term labor.

Go to or call your CVS, Eckerd's, or Rite Aide...whatever your nearest drug store is, and talk to the Pharmacist. They will tell you if it's safe to take. You can also try drinking tons of water and a lot of cranberry juice to flush out the bacteria. But definitely talk to a Pharmacist.
