Two years ago I was forced to surrender my teacher's certification because I purchased alchohol for a 19 year old. He was NOT a student, but we were having an adult relationship. I was 26 at the time. His mother told. I have ended that relationship since that time. I have not done anything illegal since then. I have also been working on getting my certification back. I was a good teacher. I love teaching. Do you think the state board of educators will give it back?

If the state board is informed of why you were suspended and relieved of your certificate...you will NEVER get it back. With all of the publicity of late regarding unacceptable teacher/student relationships the accreditation boards are becoming very conservative in the matter. They have any NUMBER of teachers to choose from....why would they choose one who has demonstrated his/her lack of personal discipline in getting into an unacceptable teacher/student relationship in the recent past.

You'll probably have to hire an attorney. When you surrendered your teaching certificate, was it ordered by the court or was it privately negotiated? You might have to go to a different state and get certified somewhere new--feel like moving and starting over?

If you did get it back you would most likely be on probation.
