Whats the deal with the super 8s is it a knockout or is it a tournement style thing?

Super 8 is not the knock out stage. Knock out stage will be the semi final stage. Top 4 teams from the super 8 will qualify for the semi finals.

Super 8 is a league system where each team all the other qualifiers except the qualifier from their own group.
