Hi everyone! My husband and I have a company dinner to go to tomorrow night and my mother is supposed to watch my 8 week old little boy. Two of the dogs are hyper and NOT well trained. I asked her to try to keep them away from the little guy this time, as I will not be there. Personally I (my husband is too) am just a little uncomfortable with it. But my mom got angry and took offense, not only that she acted like I was trying to make her choose! (my husbands parents both have TINY dogs and they even kept dog and baby apart) Should my husband and I stand firm on our decision?

Yes you are quite right. It is your decision, no question. Animals can always pose a potential risk to small children. In the UK in recent years there have been a number of well-publicised incidents where babies and toddlers have been killed or badly hurt by dogs who had no previous history of being dangerous.
Anyway, what ever the issue is, you are the mum and your mother should respect that.

You need to find a new babysitter, and fast. Your mom doesn't respect you as a parent and doesn't think there's anything wrong with her precious little poochies - a bad combination.
It only takes seeing the scars of a dog bite on a child's face ONCE and it'll stick with you the rest of your life. Even dog claws can leave marks forever. Tell your mom that you aren't comfortable with the dogs being in the house, that it's nothing personal, and you're having someone else watch the baby.
And don't believe her when she says "Ok fine, I'll keep the dogs away" because it sounds like she won't. She'll just say it to make you happy.

Yes Stand Firm. I wouldn't want three big dogs around my kids and they are 2 and 4 1/2. This is your child and you have the right to choose what happens around him. Dogs are naturally curious animals and it would only take a second for them to mistake a new baby for a new chew toy.

Grandma loves her little one, I am sure she will be careful. She was probably a little insulted and snapped back, but she probably understood what you were saying. I do this with my b/f all of the time. He will tell me something and I will get mad because he felt the need to tell me, but I still do what he suggested whether he knows it or not. You know what I mean? I wouldn't worry she will take care of that precious baby of yours. She took good care of you, right?
I don't maybe everyone else has a point too. Why don't you have someone drop in on her unexpectedly who can tell you what is going on.

Absolutely! You child is your child and if your mother values her dogs more than her grandson, she shouldn't deserve to baby-sit your child.
Hopefully nothing happens, but if it does, it would be your mother's fault. Why leave that up to chance?
Trust me, stand behind your decision. If her feelings get hurt, so be it, you as a parent MUST look out for your helpless newborn.
God bless!

I might paintings on relocating into my possess location. Just for the truth that your father won't aid out with the puppies problem for awhile tells me he isn't going to difference his hobbies of matters for you and that perhaps in case you dont adore it it's time you get your possess location. Dog hair could be a chance as soon as your child is crawling and your child may also be allergic to it as good. I might be extra worried with the three massive puppies within the condo with my child no longer such a lot the hair. Dogs paintings in packs and if there's jealousy of even one puppy they may be able to all % assault your child regardless of how high-quality or how a lot you believe them. Something to suppose approximately--- Worry approximately he puppies greater than the hair. Good Luck

I think she's offended because it's common sense to not let the dogs eat the baby. She raised you. You're alive. Did you guys have big dogs when you were little? Give her a little credit. I and my six sisters were raised in a house with bloodhounds rampaging around with their giant floppy tails and giant giant paws and slobber flying everywhere, and we made it fine. We've got pretty good reflexes, in fact. *lol*
