Ok, I've never used a tampon, I only have a brief idea of where my *ahem* "area" is, and I have to swim 200yds plus diving tomorrow AND Sunday. I am unnaturally scared to use a tampon and I am freaking out because first of all, I started today and I am going to be a lifeguard ALL SUMMER. Is there any other option other than a cup?

First, No worries! Really, it is ok to be nervous.
First, tampons are nothing to be afraid of. Many girls starting out are afraid of it "getting lost" up there. That can't happen anymore than a spoon getting lost in a yogurt cup! A vagina is really not very long and it "dead ends" at the cervix, so the tampon has no where to go. The muscles of the vagina hold it in place until you take it out.
I would start out with a "junior" size tampon. They are a bit more slender but still do the job.

Take a little time to read the instructions that come with the tampons. They actually are very helpful. If you try using a tampon for the first time when your flow is heavy it will usually slide in easily. My first time using a tampon also was brought about by needing to be able to swim. We have all been there!

You can do it! Take your time, read the instructions and try!
Good luck!

Just try a tampon all ready. There are explicit instructions in the box, with a drawing included. The most important thing to remember is to RELAX. They are very easy to use, and once you start using tampons you will never use a pad again.

When you buy a box of tampons it comes with directions and even pictures showing you how to put a tampon in and take one out.

You see those two flaps that's were your vagina opening is. Insert it up there. Follow the directions on the tampon box.

EDIT:Go to the site of the brand of the tampons you have and you can get instructions there.

tampons are really easy and safe to use plus inside they give you instructions and a picture diagram on how to use one. One of the bonuses I have found from tampons is also less odor and you do not have to worry about moving wrong and spinging and embaressing leak. Plus you can were a lot of different outfits without havin to worry about seeing a bulge in your pants or possibility of it showin when you are wearing a cute skirt.
