Go to http://www.wikipedia.org and type in World War II. I know that some articles on this website are disputed for validity, but they have a very comprehensive article on the war. Check it out!

World War II began when Adolf Hitler began the take over of weak European countries with the help of his buddies Mussolini (Italy's leader) and Joseph Stalin (the leader of the Soviet Union or U.S.S.R., now Russia). When they took over Poland it was the last straw and European nations began peace talks and eventually military action.
The United States didn't concern it's self with the war until December 7, 1941, when the Japanese (also allied with Germany and the USSR) sent attack planes to bomb Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii. *Note Hawaii was not a state, until 1959. At this time it was a territory.
US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) decided it was time for action and declared war on Japan. The US had entered the war.
During Europe in this time, Hitler began his mass genocides. He aimed to rid the world of "undesirables"-Jews, the handicapped, the mentally challenged, and homosexuals.
In Germany, Hitler required everyone to register with the government...a kind of national census. Then he knew who had registered as Jewish. Then Jews were required to wear yellow Stars of David on their clothing, which they had to pay for. Systematically Jews were required to report. Without notice they were then deported to concentration camps in crowded boxcars, packed wall to wall. When they arrived, they were starved, overworked, abused, traded for POWs or the very young, pregnant, elderly and ill were immediately exterminated when they thought they were being allowed to shower and were actually poisioned with gases. Their bodies were then buried in mass graves, burned, or merely stacked in piles.
The war ended and concentration camps were liberated in 1945 when the good guys won the fighting. Hitler then commited suicide. By that time Stalin had come to the good side.
Hope that answers your questions.......Lex
