how much does a short move cost in new york city?

studio apartment not a lot of furniture.but i live on 5th floor.no elevator

Depends who you use. If you go w/ a major mover then it can be pricey. I moved a whole house (a small one w/ very little furniture) less than a mile and it cost me $1,000. I used a big company though. They did almost all the wrapping, taping, packing, etc. If you do this stuff yourself you can save a lot of money since the major companies charge like $15 for a box of packing tape.

If you look in the paper you can find people that do moving all around the city. Also check craigslist.com for people w/ vans and small trucks that do moves in nyc. I don't think it would cost more than a couple hundred.
