i need to write an essay about how outer appearance can fool you and why you should not judge people on what you see on the surface. how does society's views come into play? and what can we do as a whole to address this issue of stereotyping? Any opinions or suggestions? thanks! =]

I don't know...it's a give and take.

On one hand, people are not always what they appear to be. Some people look at me and think..."oh lord, dressed all in black. She's so unapproachable and is likely a satanist" But, expressing myself physically the way I do tends to put some people off, however once people get to know me they know that I do a lot of good things. I work with animals, I am intelligent, I do volunteer work.

The other hand...stereotypes come from somewhere and a lot of times people do fall into those, whether they care to admit it...or not.

First impressions say a lot...and I think that it is okay to intially judge a book by it's cover...just keep your mind open while you are reading the contents

Beauty is only skin deep.

I guess you could say Snow White's stepmother was beautiful (2nd most beautiful in the land) but she was a mean sorceress biotch.

You can get cosmetic surgery to change your appearance, but it doesn't change who you are inside.

Like, say, a lot of people who get gastric bypass surgery and lose a bunch of weight have all these issues when they're thinner and they're like, uh, I thought I'd be OK if I were skinny! WAAAAHHHH!

They totally bought into the skinny=happy idea. Or skinny=successful, or whatever.

Or what about evil models? Like Naomi Campbell, who gets paid to be gorgeous, throwing stuff at her employees? Her looks sure don't make her a good person.

You can talk about the Enron Executives. They look nice and hard working. They wear suits all the time and they look like good business people but they were greedy and cost many workers their retirement plans. Also you can talk about the Bounty Hunter named Dog on Discovery channel. His the one that looks like the bad guy but his getting criminals of the street.
