Where I live we seem to have a lot of women bankers. However I've heard that girls in school have a harder time initially with math, so this seems counterintuitive for them to be working with numbers every day if this holds up. Is it just a myth that girls have a harder time with math, or do they catch up and then enjoy it?

I'm asking this as an actual question, not to anger anyone. I do like the women bankers.

Men are better at math involving algebra and geometry and stuff like that there. Women are better with money.

Banking is largely clerical - which many women still tend toward (of their own free will).

Counting money is simple arithmetic. You don't have to be a math whiz to add and subtract. Not to say that women are bad at math. (Though I am the math parent, not the lady of the house).

The pay is relatively low, so often only the person with the 2nd income in the family (more likely the wife) can afford to work there.

There plenty of female branch managers and executives, but the higher up you go, the fewer.

"Women are not poor at math, this is a myth, they just become confused because they are always told that something two inches long, is actually eight inches."

Gee, if women become that confused, can't they just use a ruler? Do they have the need to submit to a man that badly? Do they have no self-confidence? I thought women could think for themselves.

Which is it?

I think your experience may be atypical, although women do often perform secretarial duties. Banks kind of work that way, so it may be a similar concept.

It's a myth that women have more problems with math but I think the reason there is so many women working at banks is because of the flexible hours.

Women work in banks because historically it was a long, thankless job with poor pay and little else in the way of renumeration. Women are not poor at math, this is a myth, they just become confused because they are always told that something two inches long, is actually eight inches. They have just been lied to over and over.

I dont see that here, but maybe in your country more women pick that direction for whatever reason.
Nobody seems surprised when all the secretaties and parlours are female.

Maybe because people feel more at ease when they are talking to a woman in the bank, than to a man?

(Hostess type idea)

I think there's more trust in women than in men. Statistics shows that men are more likely to steal than women.

i'm pretty sure its a myth...girls in general are less lazy than guys, so in theory they wouldn't be worse at math.

They're good at details and keeping track of things.
