3 men go inot a motel. The man behind the dest said the room is $30, so each man pays $10 and go to the room.

A bit later the man behind the desk realized the room should be $25, so he sends the bellboy to the room with $5.

The bellboy cant figure out to split the money evenly so he keeps 2$ and gives each man 1$.

So each man paid 9$ for the room 9x3=27
bellboy kept 2$ 27+2= 29

where is the dollar?

Okay - here's how it works.
At the desk is $30 - $5 = $25

The fellas have paid $25 + $2 that the bellboy pocketed = $27

Split three ways = $9

$27 + $3 they got back = $30

You're looking the wrong direction. It's not $30 - $2 it's $25 + $2

and it's $30 - $3 not $25 + $3

pile 1 = $30 --> - $5 = $25 --> +$2 = $27

now pile 1 = $27 --> the boys get their $3 --> there is no missing dollar at all.

They paid $25 for the room. They paid $2 for the bell boy.
So they paid 9 X 3 = $27 total. $25 for the room and $2 for the bell boy.

there is no extra dollar, it's not 27 its $28
$30.00 - $5.00 = $25.00
$25.00 + $3.00 = $28.00
$28.00 + $2.00 = $30.00
you say "9x3=27" to make the person/people think about that but if you forget that part than it shows you where the dollar is.
