When asked a question a "normally organized" right-handed person looks (from your viewpoint, looking at them)
Example: Let's say a child ask's you for a cookie, and you ask them "well, what did your mother say?" As they reply "Mom said... yes." they look to the left. This would indicate a made up answer as their eyes are showing a "constructed image or sound. Looking to the right would indicated a "remembered" voice or image, and thus would be telling the truth.
Other indications:
1. Their eyes cast down when they lie.
2. They add too much.
3. Nervous laughter.
4. They feign ignorance about something you know they know.
5. They take charge of the conversation to distract/divert you.
6. They play on your friendship: asking you to just trust them,
7. You sense that something is off; any clue will do.
8. You find YOUR eyes squinting and your head angling several degrees.
9. When you ask for an explanation/clarification, there's a momentary gap while they conjure up something.
10. Explanations are given, that, while plausible, aren't good enough for YOU.

Everyone as a tale tell when their lying and it's different for everyone. It's usually a nervous tick, tapping of a foot, the unablity to look you in the eyes, pulling on the ear . . . etc. . .etc. And usually the person is completely unaware that they are doing this while they are lieing. So just watch the person in question in different situations and around different stressors. If you are observant enough, you should be able to figure out their tale-tell.
(my sister and mum start smiling when their are lieing.)

i think the most obvious is if they're not making eye contact and would stare at the ground or the walls or whatever. and if theres some little movements involved in the conservations..like pushing her hair behind her hair, and tapping her fingers on a surface.
but hey if shes being interviewed, it could be just the nerves, not the intentional lying.

Yes, I watch their eyes...if a person does not intermittently look you in the eyes that is a good sign of lying. Plus watch the body language.

Also listen to their tone of voice. Fluctuation in voice usuall indicates insecurity (lying).
The eye will usually move constantly and never focus on you.
Liars also tend to use "filler" words to add more detail to something that doesnt require to much description. Fillers such as "ah" "umm" and "you know" will also indicate the same.

if you can't look at the person straight in the eyes while talking, means you're lying. hand movements and gestures to emphasize his/her point while talking means a person is sincere. looking at the left side while talking to someone means that person is lying. when he/she is gasping for words to say and you can sense that he/she tries to sidestep a question, he/she is lying. you can tell if i'm lying... you can see it in my face... my face is all red and my eyes are watery, just another way of determining if a person is lying.

body language - eyes
too smooth - if a person is too smooth in answering questions in interview, that means he may be lying. He is just well prepared.

Usually I just feel it in me that something's wrong. Some of the answers here are great. Perhaps all these clues happen really fast and give us that gut feeling.
