Actually there are two forms of punishment, corporeal punishment and capitol punish. Corporeal punishment would encompass anything short of death, while capitol punishment entails death, by what ever means. I will attach web sites that will give in depth descriptions of both. The other people are right in that there is psychological, deprivation etc as well as other types of punishment but they would fall under corporal punishment. The people before are confusing positive and negative reinforcement, with punishment.

Positive (type I) punishment applies an adverse stimulus to decrease the behavior. Spankings, for instance.

Negative (type II) punishment removes a positive reinforcement. Grounding, taking a toy away, etc.
