Sure. As long as you have up-to-date virus protection software. Any file sharing program is risky as anyone can embed viruses into programs that you'd download. If you're file-sharing and your virus software is not current you might as well start looking for a new computer because it won't be long till this one is shot.

Limewire is definitely a safe program, no adware or spyware included. However, you must watch what you download, there are viruses out there that can be easily downloaded. But that is true with any P2P software. Pay attention to file sizes, if a song is say 129.5 kb you know something is wrong because a full length song is usually between 2 and 5 mb. You may end up launching a website that has been disguised as a song that will give you spyware or worse. Also check everything you get with a virus checker.
In all honesty though, If you are using limewire for music you should just take the legal route. You can buy a subscription to Rhapsody Music Player for 10 dollars a month. It gives you access to millions of songs, albums, and playlists. You can listen to other user created playlists or create and share one of your own. In the long run the 120 dollars a year is worth the peace of mind that you are helping out the artists you love, and yet you arent being screwed by ridiculously high cd pricesor chancing a possible lawsuit. To sweeten the deal you can buy great mp3 players that work with rhapsody, and you can transfer songs and channels for free for only 5 dollars more a month.
If you are trying to download legal music programs or software legitimately I would suggest looking into Bitcomet. Its a bit torrent client that downloads at 10 times the speed of limewire. Look into it, its got a little learning curve, but its a must for quick and safe downloading. (with a virus scan of course)

Nope, it's not. I don't care how many people tell you it is, but it is not secure or legal.
The files you download, such as music come from other users, just like yourself, so if their computer has a virus or spyware on their computer, that can transfer onto your computer, infecting it.
That happened to a computer that I worked on and windows had to be reinstalled on the computer, because it got so messed up.
So if you use limewire or anything program like it, you are doing it at your own risk.
If you want risk free go with itunes.

No, limewire is not safe. I was addicted to limewire- but I had to uninstall it because it was messing up my computer. I know it's easy to belive the people who say "it's safe," but it isn't. As much as you want to download it- don't... it will ruin your computer. It could'nt have been my computer because it is only 4 months old. I've got to admit- I'm a computer geek, but still cool. See, I'm good at computers, but still cool (i don't look like any sort of geek.) Anyway- do what i said about limewire....

Depends on if you think viruses are safe and secure. I have gotten so many viruses on my computer because of files that I've downloaded from limewire... I finally got rid of the program because it was more hassle than help. Try Bearshare, that's a good peer-to-peer downloading program, no viruses from them yet.

well its best to get limewire pro but you have to buy it & even sometimes you can get virises but you can download some protection you should try "avast" oh & if that file has a viris it should have a pop up right before you open it it would say "this file is unsafe" thats when you don 't open it.

That's what I use and I have had no problems at all. It's as good as the more costly sites, and so much more inexpensive. - Limewire Pro, that is.

it's ok for me...but make sure you have an anti-virus...and run it every week to see if everything is ok with your pc if you use limewire frequently...try not to download zip files as they can contain viruses....good luck :)
