My daughter is now 13 months old, we have had an alarm for all the children. When she was tiny, it used to go off quite a bit, she would move off the sensor pad or hold her breath. I took her to the Doc and he said she's fine - no health problems.
As she's gotten older, I have switched the alarm on by habit really. It hasn't gone off since......I cant' remember, it's so long.
In the early hours of this morning, the alarm sounded on two occasions. I ran to my baby and put my hand on her chest to check, and both times, she just calmly took a breath in and was fine after that.
I am 'On Pins' now. Why did that happen? Will she do it again?
I thought that as her body matured, it wouldn't happen unless there was something wrong.
Can anybody help with an explanation?

ive got one of them monitors too, they r great, but not when the alam goes off, my son used his while in a cot till 2 and a half yrs, the monitor went off on many occasions and at different ages, i called the company and they said a babies breathing can slow down and as long as their lips arent blue then dont worry, so i dont, i just check the lips, i now use it for my new baby and its gone off about 10times in her 3 and a half months, but shes ok, my friends a nurse and she said its normal for babies to have a delay for 20 seconds, take care, at least we have a monitor to know when something could go wrong, they get in a real deep relaxed sleep, and sometimes their movements r so slight

Is the monitor for health issues or a store bought one?
I debating getting a store brand monitor, and my Dr told me to steer clear. She said sometimes the monitor may not pick up movement b/c the baby might just be in the wrong position, and that I was likely to spend my night awake, nervous that I won't hear the alarm. So I opted out of it. My friend, on the other hand, bought one, and quickly got rid of it for those reasons. Mu opinion is if your doctor says everything is OK, then trust your doctor. If your still not feeling right, demand tests. Tell your Dr your intuition is telling you there's a problem, and you want it looked into.
If it isn't a store brand, and it's a medical monitor, then I would demand tests right away. Those monitors aren't likely to malfunction, and could be signaling a problem.
Good luck!

dont worry ur daughter will be just fine. she sounds like a healthy baby and u seem like a caring mother. apena is all that it is. It is very common in young children and even adults. My sister has it and shes had it for a while. She s now thirteeen and a healthy level 10 gymnast. dont worry ur daughter is fine.
maybe go to a different docter or ask ur docter if ur daughter could do a sleep study to see if sleep apnea is what she suffers from occasionally.

My baby started that at around 5 months
She continued until around 1 or so.
There was no explanation but I believe she was doing it on purpose, kind of trying out what her breatheing does
I lost count of the times I was going to rush her to hospital,
But she's also one of those cheeky babies, You know the ones that make you laugh all the time
There is no reasurrance just hang in there and hope she stops it soon

why use a moniter?... my mum says that she cant see the point and that they teach you to lose confidence as a parent..and lose your instinct.
she says they didnt exsist when we were little...i know this is cliche' but if she stops breathing and dies the chances of you saving her are slim..god holds the power..your time is your time.
you cant watch her every time all the time..mum had a friend whose baby girl passed away by stopping breathing/cot death and she had a moniter but she now says that she slept through it she thinks that she had spent so much time awake worrying about her dieing that she was so tired she crashed! its a shame but it is common. my son used to hold his breath but hes now three...my advise..ditch the moniter..enjoy being a parent and you'll drop the habit of listening for it i did..:)

Apnea is rather normal in children, actually even grown ups do that sometimes (check your husband while he's asleep, you'll see)
I think there's nothing to worry about, unles she's sick or recovering from an infection of something.

Don't worry!!! Your daughter will be fine

Does she have allergies or a cold right now? Is she on any medication? Those things can affect her breathing at nighttime. I would speak with your pediatrician about why this could be happening at this age.
