My boyfriend and I are taking our respective parents out to eat. It's their first time meeting each other, so we both want it to be nice and special (since we are also celebrating my college graduation). We also want it to be semi-inexpensive...we're both paying for everyone. The families tend to lean to Italian food, but all restaurant options are appreciated! Thanks!

Try Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown (located on Ponce de Leon just south of Piedmont). They're not too expensive and have a good range of Italian dishes; they also have very good lunch portions if that fits your schedule. The meal also includes salad and spumoni or vanilla ice cream for dessert.

I know this place works from experience - it's where our parents met for the first time. Bigger groups normally get a table in a quieter area of the restaurant as well, which helps for conversations.

If you want to go somewhere that is not a chain, try La Tavola in Virginia-Highlands. It has some great menu options, plus it is in a nice area of town that is suitable for talking a walk or going for dessert/coffee afterwards.

Another good option is Ippolitos which is a local family-run establishment with several locations. The garlic rolls are reason enough to go there, but the food is delicious as well. You can have anything from pizza to an entree.

I think it depends on where you are located. Because places like the Olive Garden or Carrabba's are just along 285. (Olive Garden is by Perimeter Mall and Carrabba's is off of Cobb Parkway or Tara Blvd.). So if you want to stay in the city, I would suggest Maggiano's, but if you don't mind a drive then definitely Carrabba's. The food is wonderful! It's not too expensive (anywhere from $13.50 and up). I hope this helps.

I'll say Maggianos because it has a great family atmosphere as well as family style eating and dining. I love the food and it is very good every time. You will dream about the goodness that Maggianos has to offer you. When I say that I love it I really mean it. Plus they give huge portions so please believe you will definitely need to go on an empty stomach and the servers are on top of their game!!! The only one that I've been to is in Buckhead. Overall and around great atmosphere with a real energetic and happy vibe to it.

Atl Fish Market, Mazziano's, Rays on the River, there are sooooo many places here it would be hard to name them. Ask some people around what they suggest, they know you and will know more of what your taste is. There are always the fall back places like Red Lobster, or Provino's or Olive Garden.... depends on what they like or what your taste is. For Italian I would choose Mazziano's (not sure if spelling is correct) or Marietta Dinner, or Pasta Bella in Austell.

Carraba's should be the best choice. Not too pricey and the atmosphere is good. The food is even better. And the customer service has never been bad when I have gone.

Alfredo's Italian Restaurant sounds pretty good and the entrees range from $12 to $18.50 (so I guess it depends if you consider that expensive or not).

Great prices and good for a group, family style dinners, huge portions. I hope one of there locations works for you. My favorite dish there is the rigatoni with vodka sauce.
