He is trying, which is far better than the vast majority of politicians on both sides. Whether you agree with him or not (and I do, though it is quite obvious that you do not), you cannot question his sincerity in this issue.

I can however question the sincerity of the Bush administration. To be fair, I don't believe it is fair to question Bush's sincerity, he seems genuinely to believe in all that foolishness. He seems to honestly believe that he is protecting the American people and their freedom (though if he looked at it honestly, he would see that he is destroying freedom after freedom--and doing it all in the name of freedom). That probably makes him the most dangerous one in the whole bunch really. He has fully decieved himself into believing he is helping Americans; so much so that no matter how foolish or evil anything he does is, he believes because it is for America that it is made okay--that the end justifies the means and that the purity of the goal will burn away the evil of the tactics used to attain it.

Which is probably why he continues to try to hold on to those who are so obviously evil. Donald Rumsfeld he tried his best to hold onto, and only the loss of a friendly Congress finally convinced him maybe the American public didn't like Rummy. He continues to trust Dick Cheney (and whether you are Republican or Democrat, I can't believe anyone doesn't see the hypocrisy in that one; and I wouldn't be too surprised if we eventually found out he was the Antichrist--though I don't think he is...yet). I'm not sure what to think about Alberto Gonzales (about whether he is intentionally evil or as self-decieved as Bush), but his use of the Patriot Act and fear to frighten US attorneys into supporting a Bush-led empire shows he should at least be tossed out on his ***, and maybe even jailed if it is shown he broke the law intentionally (by law I mean Constitution).

So you can go after Murtha and Clinton, but I would suggest getting rid of the rafter in your own eye before you go after the straw in mine (isn't that what the Bible thumper base of the republicans says is in the Bible).
