Ok this is a problem I've been having. I am training to be a lifeguard and I figured I would have at least tried a tampon before now, but no....I just can't get over my strange fear of wearing one. Is it possible to swim without one without problems with leaking? I heard somewhere that wearing a pad in your bathing suit works, but I'm totally clueless. And no I won't wear any of those cup things of any sort.

I have, but I have this strange fear....I have OCD and get scared of the smallest things...I try to do it, but sometimes even the thought makes me shake (yes literally) I wish desperately that I could get over this fear but I cant.

well have you actually taken one out of the wrapper and looked at it becasue i was scared of them at first too but then i took one out of the wrapper and pushed the cardboard applicator so it came out and then i realized that it really isn't all the big and scary.

get the smallest size you cand find becasue that will be the easiest to get in.

Good luck with the tampon adn the life guarding!

Wearing a pad while you swim doesn't usually work because when it gets that wet, it starts to fall apart and then you'll get little chunks of cotton falling out. Maybe one of the very thin ones would work, but I think it would probably do the same.

If I were you, I would really try using tampons. You'll probably want to try the plastic applicator kind, in the junior, mini, or light size. They are small, really. Read the instructions. Look up 'how to use tampons' on the Internet. Most of the instructions probably say "Relax!" and it really will help if you do. Also, it's really important that the tampon is tilted a little when you try to use it. It doesn't go straight up.

If you're worried that the tampon will 'get lost' -- it won't! There's really no place for it to go and the string is very secure. Open up the box and look at how the tampons work. Take one apart.

Don't try to use tampons when you aren't on your period. Try using one when you're on a 'heavier' day and when you aren't in a hurry. Don't get frustrated. If you can't get it to 'work right', so to speak, then just throw it away. It doesn't matter if you go through the whole box before you've actually got it; just buy some more and try again when you're ready.
