How would you advertise this...
WHAT SHOULD I WRITE???...

Mothers’ day is coming (May 13th, America) , please tell me, is this a good idea, I sell Avon and my brother gave me this idea... (He said it would work for the men who just don't know what to get... and the men who work too late to go shopping...) make gift baskets... and do a "build your own basket" or a “You pick the price” where you tell me what you want in the basket and I put it together. And charge...

Ex.
Small basket: $2.50 plus the cost of the Avon products.
Medium basket: $3.50 plus the cost of the Avon products.
Large basket: $4.50 plus the cost of the Avon products.

Do you think this would work???

would it work in a small town???

PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT TO WRITE!!!!

First of all you need to contact Avon and verify with them that it is OK for you to charge a service fee. I am betting that it is NOT OK with them.

I am a man and my wife loves Avon. I think it is a great idea. I believe if your basket is well done (looks good), has products in it that are either are very popular or ones that no woman would want to be without, it would go over big. I like your two choices, pick the products (I wouldn't know what my wife would like, but some men might), or pick the price.
As for a service fee, I would be willing to pay for the products, the basket, and additional fee for putting it together. First, I wouldn't know what the price of all that stuff should be and I am only concerned with what is the bottom-line --- whether I think my wife would like it and can I afford it.
Make some inexpensive baskets with just a few items that kids and teenagers could buy for their mom.
Are people different in small towns? I think is would work where there are men with wives.
Great idea.

First of all, you're over-complicating this. Don't separate the cost of the baskets in your total. Just have small, medium and large baskets and add the total of your cost for the basket in the overall price.
Men don't want to fuss with and pick out the items, as they usually have no idea what the person wants. If someone chooses to build a basket, that's fine, but you want to keep it as simple as possible for these guys.
I recommend you build a small, medium and large basket, using inexpensive items, cover it in cellophane and decorate it, take pictures and put them all on one display board. Put your display board in grocery stores and whatever local newspaper or publication you might have. Have a set price for each size of basket, and if they want to add more items, have a catalog right there where they can pick something out or suggest something to them that you know Mom's will like. Add it to the cost of the basket.
Maybe you know of a local store that will allow you to display all 3 baskets with your advertisement.
In your ad you want to create a sense of urgency so that people will order ahead.
You could try:

I am not sure if you can put your own price on the basket but why not isn't it your business? I supposed you have to be leary of how you advertise?

My guess is do things that aren't ultra personal (like make up)
do shower/bath/feet/creams. Sounds nice.
Good luck.

Actually it would be a good idea except, that women are pretty picky about make-up stuff. As a man, I learned to stay away from trying to buy stuff like this.

If you have a lot of money to invest in them. I lost a lot of time and money doing that and got stuck with the product. Good Luck! Jennifer
