Is the practice of believing oneself to be more capable than one actually consciously knows on is a “good” practice. Is being overconfident to achieve what one wants narcissism? - Or do you think humans are in most cases unaware of there true potential so this type of overconfidence is a good thing.

I think there's a definite difference between the two. Self-confidence is the belief that you are capable of handling the tasks set before you. Narcissism is an extreme self-obsession and seems to be an outlet for those who lack this confidence. It seems like narcissism flourishes in people who cannot or do not put forth the effort to elicit respect from others, mainly due to a lack of self-confidence. But this is all just my armchair psychology, I can't really cite any sources on this one. Great question though.

i just don't believe it can be named narcissism because being self confident is a very good thing.. however not even overconfidence is narcissism because it's better to never give up and believe in yourself no matter what... i can't see anything bad in that..

No. self confidence isn't. Overconfidence does not apply here. To be overconfident is to be sure a man can give birth.

it wouldn't be narcissism as that the love of one's self...over confidence would be considered cocky and stupid....its not wrong to be confident but to be so without an open mind to others is wrong. you may be good at some things but not all, everyone has their place in the universe.

There is a big difference.

People who are very narcissistic have very fragile egos. They are actually not self-confident at all. A psych professor of mine described the narcissist's ego as a big, overblown balloon. And like any big, overblown balloon, it pops easily.

As long as you feel good about it then it doesn't matter what it means to others, only yourself.
