drug addicts, alchoholics, paedophiles, thieves, killers. iknow there are good celebrities and this is probably a bad generalisation but you lot seem to either ignore their failings or have no morals at all especially concerning your children

Personally I don't worship any celebrity!!!! Haven't done since the days of Morten Harket in A-Ha, and Matt Goss in Bros!!... and then it was probably more lust than love!!!!

Tony this is such a poignant question to me at the moment. I've been thinking about this such a lot. Red Nose day was such a eye opener for me this year. I don't usually watch as much as I did this year. And although of course I'm glad the money went to help people, I still couldn't help thinking much of it was upside down.

All I could see was self promotion and promotion of life styles that were so removed and so alien from the people that were being helped.

I was really upset when it came to the part where an 11 year old girl was looking after her parents in Britain and needed some rest bite. They sent her off on days out with some of the money. However in the mean time she was dressing and feeding her parents everyday with what appeared to be no help. Perhaps it would have been better to advertise for peole to actually do some hands on help for her.

Anyway I digress. Yes I worry about celebrity and the worship of them because our children need role models. Not people on blue peter who take drugs and lie about competitions.

You started me off on a ramble. Anyway I liked the passion of Mary Whitehouse and wish we had an equivalent now to bring back a balance.

In short, yes, I would say that the majority of humanity is somewhat sad when it comes to worshipping those who aren't any better, nor any worse that they themselves are.
We're forced through life to worship those who the media call Heroes and Gods, people like sports players, singers and so on. So they have a skill, so what? We all have our own skills, that doesn't make any of us better than anyone else.
For example, my born skill is in writing and seeing beyond the lines, also a natural born skill with gaming where I can understand and know a game before I've even played it. In other people I know, they have their own skills like art, writing, music and so on. But just because one person can do something that makes them a lot of money doesn't make them people to be worshipped.

From childhood we've forced to think in very limited, very narrow ways and worship those who aren't anything special. I've had to put up with having my skills insulted because I have no desire to get rich from them, nor get noticed. That kind of lifestyle is hollow as far as I'm concerned.
Instead of worshipping those who have skills, we should just be happy with the skills we were born with and learn new things, not for wealth and fame, but to learn more about ourselves and reality.

Tony.

I use to be a celebrities in a small little town by the sea where there is a great sense of community, great outdoors life. Life is different in big city, once you are cooped up inda house and watch telly everyday sadness grows on you.

The search continues for the person we would rather be.The parameters have changed, fame at any cost, spending to boost self-esteem, compromising morality and virtue. admiring the crude and talentless, the empty and shallow. The bland leading the bland !

yes it's pretty sad. We see these as a rebellion from the set way of life laid down for us. It is also sad to worship celebraties just because their work involves film/ music. What about doctors who save lives? We don't have posters up of them.
