Is this information kept forever, and if so, why? Behavior analysis? Marketing? Or just a way to gauge public sentiment on key issues?

Questions are archived at least for a time for users to search. The ultimate goal, as with pretty much everything Yahoo does, is to attract visitors to their site. The more people come to yahoo, the more eyeballs they'll have on their advertisements and the more they make.

The questions and answers themselves aren't that important. The important part is getting people involved and excited and participating so that they'll come back.

"Is this information kept forever, and if so, why?"

Good question, look at how fast this stuff comes in. I'm sure it's several gigs a day of data they have to store, and they don't have infinite storage. Eventually it's going to get so big it will become unwieldy.

"Behavior analysis? Marketing? Or just a way to gauge public sentiment on key issues?"

Probably all three, this forum is an immense amount of opinions on various things.

I hope they aren't gauging my intelligence through my answers because some of my answers are just nonsense. If they do, I will go down as one of the craziest ladies known to mankind...... Hey maybe that wouldn't be so bad, that way they won't expect as much out of me.

And Victor, that was me at the door. I wanted to know if I could borrow some mayo for my ham sandwich..... I saw you run out the back door.

I don't know, but I am sure most of it has been turned over to the FBI as Yahoo was one that did, unlike Google!

They want me to pay for e-mail here! Funny! Just what I need, an automatic feed to the FBI!
