the simpsons is a CLASSIC and i'm addicted to family guy but they are two different kinds of shows. Even tho they are both animated family guys humor is just really random and out there, while the simpsons is more down to earth and relatable..

The Simpsons.
I've been watching the Simpsons from the beginning on the Tracey Ullman show to today. After 20 years, it is still topical and funny. Amazingly, my kids love it as well. Family Guy is more or less a string of weak jokes based on sex or bodily functions that I cringe at when my kids are in the room. Come on, Meg buying Sperm Dumpster jeans during Sunday primetime? Whatever became of the family hour on network television?

Simpsons is absolutely the best of those two. It is one of the best TV shows ever. Hardly a day goes by that I can't relate something that happens or something somebody says to an episode of the Simpsons.
Family Guy is OK, it has its moments, but it generally takes a joke too far dragging it out until its no longer funny, just annoying.

I like Simpsons way better, they have a more broad likability and true to some aspects to life.
