I only ask b/c I don't think DHS is watching our food factories.

Not likely. Aminopterin, the name of the toxin found in the pet food, is not extremely lethal to humans. It is meant to kill rodents, and will kill any small animal. a human would have to ingest a significant amount of it for it to be lethal. Plus, an antidote could counter it if applied. Kidney failure in humans is bad, but not as bad as it is for an animal. A terrorist would more likely use a more lethal substance, and plus, the substance was found in a special type of wheat substance mainly used in pet food. We could prevent this by having most major food processer's operations in the US overlooked. We can cut down the number of food we obtain from foreign nations, and try to get more of our food from our own nation.

There are a lot of checks and security involved in food packaging and preparing of publicly consumed food products. COULD it happen? Of course. But it wouldnt have to be a terrorist, ANYONE could put rat poison into food. A terrorist could also put lemon drops into food. Your question is kind of nonsensical.

Possibly. I just heard on the news that they may have found rat poison in the dog and cat food that has been recalled. I don't know what the safeguards are on human food but it seems to me that this is a warning that we're not vigilant enough.

As a human it would be hard to eat enough to do you much harm. Yes there are angry employees handling your food products daily.

Scary thought.
Prevention is almost absolutely impossible.
If you look at the supply chain it can be done any where.

Sure they could. Food is made, sold, proccessed, and prepared in all kinds of ways. Most if it is totally unprotected.
