I was at work surfing the internet and picked up some spyware or a virus and it's causing me a lot of grief. Now my computer won't run any .exe programs and I have no idea what to do. Any advice?

The site I got the virus from is www.allabout-sp.net if that helps. It is a great site, but just after they switched to a dedicated server, they were apparently hacked and I am one of the few that caught a virus before the intrusion was discovered.

Please help, if I can't get it fixed I lose my job.

System restore is NOT an option.

Just an FYI for everyone, I can't open an .exe file, so I can't run the virus software I have. I can however access the internet, just not programs off of it such as yahoo anti-spy. Hope this helps.

I would search for an online virus scanner. You won't need to run any .exe files to get it to work, and it should clear up any problems. After that, get avast antivirus, spybot search and destroy, and avg on your computer. Avast in constantly running in the background, so you shouldn't have this happen again.

Wow - unless you know what your doing this will be hard especially if you trying to hide the fact it has happened as it means you can't rebuild and the like. I would look at downloading AVG free anti virus and anti spy ware software try installing that to see if that clears the problem. Failing that pray for a hard disk failure that requires your company's technical people to rebuild your system - they normally just wipe the disk and reformat without looking at why it failed. Or failing that take the moral high ground and tell the company that they have issued you with a PC that does not have to proper AV and Anti spy ware and that if that had been installed your "son" or "daughter" would not have caused a problem by visiting the websites they did. Sorry it not much but it's all I can think about. Good Luck.
