It can take a long time to make.
It can take a long time to change.
They do not always reflect the changing values of society - for instance, something that is acceptable to society 10 years ago may not be anymore and due to the long time it takes for parliament to change a law this may not be changed in time.
They can have political motives.
They're not always made by elected officials - for instance delegated legislation.

However on the plus side:
They are made by people who were elected by the public - thus representing a variety of values.
They can be applied retroactively.
They are debated a number of times prior to enactment.

takes longer, will of an elected party potentially hindered by an objectionable legislature...but the alternative (e.g. dictatorship) is much worse.
