Does anybody know who to contact to join the class action suit against Menu Foods for the tainted dog-food? We lost our dog suddenly after he ate this food. Someone asked about the class action but the only response was: Yes, there is a class action suit! But, who do you contact to join the class? I know its happening, I just don't know who to call or write about it. Any help is appreciated!

You have to first take your dog to a veterinarian for an autopsy. This should have been done the minute he died if you say it was "suddenly". A vet will run tests on the organs and check for any and all possible reasons your dog could have died. If your vet rules that your dog in fact died of tainted dog food. I believe most cities have appointed one DA to oversee any and all suspicious deaths due to the recall on Menu Foods. You will have to hand over your pets autopsy, vet bills, and past records. However they will most likely only give an open amount of time for you to file. After that date has passed, it will move onto a state hearing. After the state hearing it will move up to higher courts and most likely a trial. After trial, if any money is awarded it will be split between the people who had the most severe cases or multiple animal deaths. So even if you file, if they feel that your case has insufficient evidence to prove your claim against Menu Foods, you may not receive any monetary benefits from the trial.

It's sad that you lost your dog, and I know you won't want to hear this....but pets (by law) are viewed as property. Don't expect to receive damages beyone the value of purchase of a new pet. Don't expect any large payout for pain and suffering. This is probably why you don't see a number of class action lawyers jumping all over this.

Most of the news websites have links to them. But remember you will have to be able to prove this is why your pet died, i.e. medical records, vet bills, receipts and empty cans for the food. Even then, you will most likely only be reimbursed for any medical care and possibly the cost of your dog if you purchased it.

We lost our baby cat Cinnamon too. I went out on line and found an attorney who is supposed to be handling these cases. I just left our name and email address.

We are so sorry about your loss, we truly know what you are going through. Our Cinnamon was gone in less than 48 hours.
Sincerely,

Judy F

you might have to file your own-however, keep in mind, that the law will not cover for pain and suffering. pain and suffering only applies to humans, and as far as the state of Ohio goes, when filing a suit for your pet, you can only get back what the pet cost you. i am sorry you lost your puppy. i just don't think that people who lost their pets will receive any big sum of money. its sad that our laws really only apply to humans and not pets.
