I live in Scotland - pubs have been non-smoking for a year now. Small pubs shutting, less people out and about, clubs stink of BO, go out for a smoke and your seat gets nicked or (at clubs) some bouncers won't let you back in.
I can see where the non-smokers are coming from but a total ban is not the answer.
Half the night is spent outside having a smoke and non-smoking mates generally come outside anyway.

dude i came to ireland 1 1/2 years ago from south africa and when i got here i had to smoke outside the pub, it was very weird

yes, ventilation is now also installed due to farts, b.o.
in a room of some 90 -100 people drinking beer theres bound to be a couple of stinkers.
also business went down, advertising went up. rural pubs went bust.

i live in guernsey channel islands, its been no smoking here for about a yr, and pubs are still closing down,and their less busy,in fact its not much fun goin to them any more. dont come to guernsey for a holiday,if you do,bring your jack boots and swastika whith you,and you might get a job in the local government !!!!!!

No. They will come back out. Drinks and socializing are why you go..smoking is unnecessary
