Can I remove my own IUD? When the doctor said that there was the possibility it could fall out on its own, it made me think It wasn't that hard to remove- kind of like a tampon.....Does anybody know? I hate to pay a doctor for something I can do myself.

NO! Do NOT remove the IUD yourself, ever! Yes, there's a small chance it could get pushed out by your body by itself after you first get it in, but trying to take it out yourself will cause *major* damage to your cervix since the little branches can get hooked onto the cervix. They can even get hooked onto your uterine wall and cause damage that way. The only similarity IUDs share with tampons is that they both have strings, but the tampon sits *outside* the cervix in the vagina, so it's designed to be taken out easily without causing damage. But the IUD isn't, so a doctor should *always* be the one to take it out. Suck up the doctor's bill and have it taken out correctly.
