I am a 23 yo female in good health. I eat well, and don't eat particulary spicy foods or anything that would typically give heartburn. I have had a metallic taste in my mouth since last Wednesday (9 days ago) and for the past 3 days have had little bouts of heartburn/indigestion even when eating things like PB&J sandwiches and fruit.

What could be causing the metallic taste/heartburn/indigestion?

A metallic taste in the mouth is a fairly common problem — and usually not serious. Although you don't have actual taste buds that detect metals, the perception of the taste is described as "metallic."

A metallic taste can be due to many factors. But the most common causes of a metallic taste are:

Medications such as some antibiotics, prenatal vitamins and antidepressants, as well as drugs used to treat high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis and kidney stones
Oral problems, including oral infections such as gingivitis or periodontitis, tooth infections, and poor oral hygiene
Sometimes the cause of a metallic taste can't be determined. In many cases, the problem goes away on its own after several months or longer. Proper oral hygiene can help, including regularly brushing your teeth and brushing and scraping your tongue. Done properly, dental restorations — such as fillings and inlays — are rarely the cause a metallic taste.

Heartburn is caused (in pregnancy) by the baby pushing up on your organs as well as the hormone progesterone. Most things in pregnancy are caused by hormones. There is no truth to that hair myth. That is an old wives tale. My sister had heartburn her entire pregnancy (as do many women) and her baby came out bald. I had it very mildly in the begining and that was in and my daughter came out with a full head of hair. It's about genetics nothing else. Symptoms of pregnancy don't predict what your child will come out like or as.

You could have acid reflux. It sounds like you do because of the metallic taste in your mouth ( thats actually the acid moving back up your esophogus). Talk to your doctor and in the mean time try some Tagamet take 1 before you eat and there will be no heartburn. http://www.tagamethb.com/

Also pay attention to when you get hearburn. What are you eating? When does it occur? Are you sometimes missing meals or allowing yourself to get really hungry before you eat?

I have suffered with heartburn all my life, it runs in our family.

Talk to the doctor if it gets worse, you can get prescription drugs like Prilosec that control acid reflux.
