Do you not know, that in the beginning(of mankind) God created them male and female, male and female created He them, with a desire for and an attraction to the opposite sex! It is so written in the Second chapter of the book of Genesis. It is God in His divine wisdom, who wanted for His new creation, man, to reproduce through sex and multiply on the face of the earth.

Likely because nature would select toward people who are likely to reproduce. While it is possible to reproduce in non-traditional ways (man and woman), for the most part, nature would create attraction between make and female to improve the chances of reproduction and propagation of the species.
Sort of why bees like nectar. They are attracted to it because while trying to get it, they get pollen on their appendages that helps propagate plants. Without bees, we would have a much harder time attaining pollination.
