Patriots take risks for their beliefs. Patriots believe in their country, planet and life as a general operational concept. Patriots stand up with the weak against bully's and aggressors. Patriots are aware of the most important issues and are eventually vindicated for their actions by the future. Patriots think for themselves and are cool, whether that requires intensity or calm. Patriots care. Patriots can inspire themselves and others.

And here is the scary one, Patriots are willing to put their lives and others' lives on the line for what they believe their country, planet and life should be like.

You CANNOT believe in America without believing in the right of the citizens to overthrow the government of America. At the heart of the American tradition are a core group of historical figures who risked everything to kick the King of England out of here. Also at the heart of the American tradition are the indigenous people who stood up against the aggression of the corrupt, genocidal, American government.

These were violent, risky and bold actions. If you would not be willing to stand up in the same way against tyranny, internal or external, then you are not a patriot.

Patriots are willing to sacrifice, and if someone claims to be a patriot, and they are fat, talk a lot, and have never sacrificed anything, Rush Limbaugh for instance, then they are not a patriot.

Patriots do not assassinate or execute. They do not take hostages or kill neutral parties to make a statement. They are not religious fanatics. They are not tyrants.

If Bush declared himself emperor and that congress would be dissolved tomorrow, (which could actually happen) then the patriots would fight, with guns against police officers and marines, to re-institute the constitution.

Patriots believe in the progress of human history, that it is possible to improve the life experience of everyone and everything on this planet.

Thus, to be patriotic is an act of hope, faith and the deepest generosity, the kind where you are giving your own life away for a much greater purpose than your own satisfaction.

To be Patriotic, pay your fair share of taxes. Vote. Support the troops. But question your government. Thats why people created democracy. Thats why we have elected official. Thats why we rebelled against the British and became the great country we are today. After all, the Troops aren't fighting over there and dieing so we don't have the right to complain. They're doing it so we can be free. So that we aren't oppressed. Hang out your American flag, pay you taxes, and defend freedom inside our country and be thankful someone is doing the best they can outside the country. If you don't like the war they're fighting do your best to change it in the right direction politically. Just remember to be thankful that the troops are doing everything they can to let you, even if they are misguided.

Patriots are people who love their country in good times and bad times, they fly the flag, they get the chills during the national anthem, they like to see their country win not lose, they have a job if they can work and pay taxes, some patriots join the service because they are proud of their country,
patriots dont burn MY flag, they dont disrespect the troops

Thats actually the best question I've seen in the government category. Our four fathers definition of a patriot was to be a rebel. To show rebellion against a tyrant gov. The patriots who won the revolutionary war in 1776 were considered to be rebels.. Unfortunatly belle to be patriotic these days is much to complicated. I am an ex-navy seal so I'll let you in on a little secret. The national flag, "old glory" is only to be flown on gov. property. If you fly the flag on your property, your saying to yourself and everyone else that the gov. owns you. If you wear it on your shirt, put a sticker on your car, well yeah. So my only suggestion is to support your state, to support states rights and individuality. if your from the south, fly the rebel flag, its a beacon for them. From the North? find the flag with 13 stripes and a snake on it and at the bottom says "don't tread on me".. from the west? Good luck with that.

by the way is that "belle" for "southern belle"?

Patriotism is NOT blindly following our government and never daring to question them. It certainly isn't waving around an American flag and putting a "Support the Troops" sticker on your car. It's also not calling anyone who disagrees with the government a commie, socialist, hippie, loser....

Patriotism IS: Loving your fellow Americans and working to make your country a better place. And I hate to quote a bumper sticker here, but it's fitting: "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

Start with understanding the core values of your country.

In the US, this is defined by the Constitution. So patriotism is supporting and defending the Constitution.

Sadly, some people disagree, and feel the Constitution is outdated and irrelevant. They define patriotism as whatever they like, and call anything they don't like treasonous.

Read and know the Constitution. Respect the law. Disavow tyranny. Question authority. Hold your leaders responsible. Vote. Be informed.

So many ways. There is no one way to be patriotic. And very few of them -- none, I'd say -- have to do with political parties, flags, yellow stickers, or empty slogans.

Don't vote unless you know what you're doing! Then vote for what you believe is best for the future of your country not for what serves your personal interests at the moment.

Know your history and be proud and amazed that we had remarkable people like Washington, Lincoln, and MLK lead this country.

Fly your flag and put on your bumper stickers because symbols are important

As JFK said "ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country." then do it

Remember that we have always been one nation under god and that's okay

Patriotism should not be a goal in and of itself. The government is there to serve the people, the people aren't there to serve the government.

A true patriot loves his country and WATCHES his government!

A true patriot does not blindly follow the government.
