If you were on a frictionless surface, you would have no grip - so you'd have to be real careful about the steps you took. They'd have to go down onto the surface and then not move, otherwise you'd slide. If you built up any kind of momentum, you wouldn't lose it very quickly, because only air resistance would stop you. If you were supposed to go to the edge without falling off, you'd have to take careful steps, - that's it.

Hope that helps,

I think the answer you are looking for is that you would have to throw something in the other direction. Due to the conservation of momentum, you would then start to move backward (from the way you threw the object). Since it is frictionless you would never lose speed and would eventually make it to the other side.

Most of these answers forget to point out that you need a force to start moving. The only thrust that you have is going to be what you can generate against the air surrounding you.

So you are going to have to flap your hands fast in a swimming motion or blow hard. Its not as ridiculous as it sounds because you conveniently have zero friction stopping you. This *will* get you moving albeit slowly.

Or of course use Newtons third law. Find something that you have and throw it hard in one direction. You will start moving in the opposite direction.

Thrust. You must eject some mass in one direction to travel in the opposite direction. Every action as an equal and opposite reaction.

There is something around that isn't your surface you that does cause friction, though. Wave your arms around if you need a hint. Think about it.
