I will use the topic of banning smoking in public as an example... Make sure you have all of your info before you begin writing.

Paragraph 1 - Introduction: Make the reader aware of the topic that you will be discussing and your opinion.

Paragraph 2, 3, and 4 - Body of essay: Each paragraph should state a reason you are for or against the issue with at least 2 to 3 examples. For instance:
2 - Smoking creates a terrible smell especially at a place where you are going to enjoy dinner and relax.
3 - Smokers set a bad example for families with children dining in a restaruant.
4 - Second hand smoke and its dangers to restaurant and bar patrons.

Paragraph 5 - Restate your opinion and briefly restate the three reasons you are for/against this.

Best of luck!

Opening - I like the other comment about shock, make it relatable (if you're in College use a college student example, if in High School...you get it).

Statistics - use over the past decades.

History - Why did this start? where did this start? How did it spread from professional atheletes to school children? What is the role of society in this issue?

The drugs - what they do, how they change a body and mind.

The negative outcomes - the impact on family and social life. The damage to body and mind. Who it hurts (not just the user). Check and see if the link to rage has resulted in death of others when the user became violent.

Close - another story, or a follow up to your opener.

Have fun, I think you picked a topic that will allow you to explore some interesting points.

You identify what it is you exactly want to say about performance enhancing drugs, what your basic argument is. That is your thesis statement. You need to determine what it is you want your readers to be persuaded to believe or do. Then, you have to have support for that argument. And since this is a persuasive essay, you have to address the opposition to your argument.

Start off w/ shock factor. Tell a story about how it has effected someone and then cite some statistics. Include photos, if you canfind any. L

Start with something along the line of a situation that has happened or could happen to someone at work. "It is another day at work and ......." I hope that helps. Give the audience something to relate to. Good Luck
