We are having dinner at one of my hubby's friend's home tonight and I bought some cookies for her and her kids...he says it is ridiculous, is it?

It's not ridiculous...it's common courtesy. I always bring something...from wine to food to flowers. Your hubby's just being a guy - no offense! ♥

Depends on the friend - I bring a bottle of wine most often to someone's house - but if it's a family dinner, baked goods - cookies, brownies, etc. are appropriate. When in doubt bring something for the adults and something for the kids. Either way it's thoughtful!!!

Why would bringing cookies to someone's home ever be ridiculous? It is always a thoughtful gesture (and quite frankly, living in the south like you do, an expected gesture) to bring a host/hostess gift, and cookies certainly not OVERDOING it. Tell you hubby that Comet said that he just laid an egg. 80)

I always bring a bottle of wine in a nice wrapping or bag. I have never done the cookie thing but I don't think it is ridiculous. As long as you are not empty handed, I think it will be fine. It's the thought that counts!

I think it is wonderful to see manners still exist. Wouldn't you enjoy if company came and brought you cookies? Most of my company knows not to show up without snacks and wine, and usually a movie to watch. I do the same, but usually bring a game we all can play too. If my husband lost his mind long enough to tell me something I was doing was ridiculous, I would be immediately back on my way to the store to buy all of the above, and load the car up with cards, dice, board games, even twister. Of course after all these years of marriage, he knows better and keeps his mouth shut.

Cookies are a good gift, if you bring cookies you bring something the hostess and the kids can enjoy. If you were to bring wine the kids would not be able to drink it.

No, not ridiculous at all, tell the Lion I am sorry - but it is considered good manners when visiting another lion's den to take a host/hostess gift! Cat usually gives flowers or something like that, but only because Cat can't have cookies, and most of her friends can't either. With one friend (a wood-elf of great age) Cat exchanges sugar-free desserts at mutual dinner parties. When she hosts, I bring; when I host, she brings.

I always bring something! Cookies is a good idea. Your hubby just wants the cookies all to himself. Go get him his own box of them.

that sounds like a great idea, kids always feel left out when people come over

i bring wine to my invites - showing up is fine, unless you are requested to bring a plate or drinks, be casual and have fun
