i'm writing a letter to the head of a department
and i don't know if i write mr. or ms.

so that's why i would like to know if marion is a girl or boy's name

write MRS

traditionally Marion is a woman's name, you will find far more women with this name than men

Both. My grandmother's name is Marion. I also knew a man named Marion.

I think a more typical spelling for women is Marian, although my grandmother is Marion with an O.

Marion can either be male or female. A good Example is:

Marion Michael Morrison better known as "THE DUKE" aka John Wayne.
