why cant my computer load windows updates?

I have windows xp home edition. I have windows updates set up to load automatically but for some reason i cannot get them to load...please help
note: i recently unistalled m.s office suite would this have anything to do with my problem??? the updates seem to want to start with m.s office

I am operating windows x.p
when i go to load windows updates all it does is search and then quits and i cant load them manually. there are a buch of updates i need but they just wont install
please help

I had the same problem. Once I uninstalled Microsoft I.E. 7.0 it disappeared.
