This depends a lot on your sex, and on the invitation.
At the very least, you should wear a shirt with buttons. Women should at least have a skirt, and men should at least wear slacks. Usually, something with a tie is best for men, and an actual dress for women is desirable. Can't go wrong with black and white for a wedding.
If there are other guests you know, your best bet is to call them around, and see what they'll be going in.

I would wear a formal dress. it you wear an unformal one and everyone is wearing formal dresses you will be underdressed. if you wear formal then even if other people are wearing unformal you still look good and people can't say your underdressed. from the way you described it, it sounds like a nice evening so I would go with formal. hope that helps.

You could wear a black dress and some nice shoes that suit your figure (if you are short, avoid strappy shoes, or flats). juice it up with some nice jewelary and a ponytail (if you have long hair). I would choose a black dress that has some intereting detail in colour (maybe a ribbon, or something like that), and i would choose shoes in the colour of that detail.
i would avoid too long or too short dresses - to your knees will be just right.

Usually formal for that time. You may also ask.
Pick a dress that has style and class - nothing that would upstage the bride - so many do not choose white.
For some reason I think of a peach color - just feminine intuition.
GOD bless us always.

formal is always in order for a wedding, unless otherwise indicated on the invitation. it doesn't necessarily have to be an evening gown or a tuxedo, but a dress or suit would be appropriate. i'd rather be over dressed than under dressed in any case. if you're over dressed, you still look sharp. if you're under dressed, you look like a bum, no matter who you stand next to.
