In a way, yes. My mother in law lives with us. Always has. For the first two years of our marriage she did the cooking and cleaning. Treated me better than she treated her own daughter.

Then she had a stroke. Affected her personality more than anything else. We've been taking care of her the last 8 years.

Most of the responsibility falls on my wife. Fortunatly we can live off of what I make and she takes care of the house, kids, momma.

But it's tough. I do what I can. Get up every night at 2 am to check on her. Watch her eat. Help my wife deal with the stress.

Our only other choice was to put her in a home. And she would've have lasted a year in one of those homes. I hate how we treat the elderly as disposable people. It shows how selfish we really are as a society.

A~

i am a caregiver for my husband who had a pituitary gland tumor 2 years ago...normally a person does not become disabled from this type tumor but his was so large and caused fluid to be blocked and press on part of brain to cause perm. damage...he's confused all the time....knows everyone, looks the same, but one minute he can think he's back in school time, or even that we are not married yet...we've been married 22 years....But I love him so much, and I miss him so much....And I wouldn't be anywhere else but right by his side....
