It may be your processor, or you have a bunch of background programs running. Try to minimize your multitasking (look at the task bar to the bottom left of your screen and exit what you don't use.) If your processor is an Intel Pentium or lower, upgrade.

General stuff to try whenever something happens-run a spyware scan or two (ad-aware, spyware doctor, spyare seek and destroy-just find a couple and run them). Run at least one virus scan.
If that doesnt turn up anything and fix it, then you need to talk to someone who can look at it. That is way to vague a problem to be diagnosed online. Too many places to look to find the culprit if its not simply a virus/spyware issue.
You said it worked fine at first, then the next day it was slow again. That does not sound like a hardware issue. If the ram doesnt work then it doesnt work, it doesnt work then suddenly stop being the proper kind. Software or other piece of hardware is much more likely.

Many factors involved here. How fast is your processor? Do you have a lot of programs loading at startup?? That causes a lot of slowdown! Defrag your hard drive.. Use Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy to get rid of any spyware. Get free 'CCleaner' to clean out megabytes of old junk on your machine!! (Don't use the 'issues' part) Clean out temp files. Delete cookies. A lot of junk and a lot of programs loading at startup can really slow down any machine. You did not specify what system you are using? 98? ME? XP? If you use Internet Explorer, do not use IE7..Stick with IE6.!! It's a shame new computers are coming out with 'Vista'....(Ecch.)

I agree that the memory may not be the correct type for your computer. Or it may be that there is a problem with your memory chips. I installed a faulty peice of memory before into my computer and it caused my computer to start really behaving very strangely. Remove the memory and test your computer, if it goes back to normal then you have your question answered.

Could it be the processor is old? That can sometimes be the cause of it.
Check everyday for spyware as this clogs up the computer.
ALSO: go to add/remove programmes and delete unnessacary programmes.
