how can I get a room full of adults to be quiet and listen to an important announcement? I have tried verbally getting thier attention, but they begin to chat again soon after I begin. if i am louder, they are louder. whistling offends, turning the lights off is ignored, if i just wait, i'll be waiting all day. I am out of ideas on how to get thier attention. can anyone help?

I would walkup to the offenders and ask for their attention. Single them out but not in an accusatory way. Perhaps start by asking the offenders for their opinion on whater you are trying to talk about.

I'd say that a loaded .45 would do the trick -- but would be afraid that you would take it seriously.
Instead, the next time it happens, pick the loudest, most obnoxious person in the room and ask him to leave.
If he does not, then you can leave.

put on some music and if u can lay on your bed do so,after you are calmed go out and say something u know will catch thier attention then start talking if u hear them start again talk a bit louyder until u cant hear them

It's obvious they don't respect you.
You need to talk to the offending adults outside of the meeting and ask for their cooperation.
If they refuse, ban them from the meeting, if you can.
What are you trying to do?
How are these people?
Who are you to these people?
