They are good....in theory, when drivers use then in the way they should! Here in Spain they have had them for the last 20 years, but still cannot go round the properly, cutting from the inside across all the traffic to turn off, I have even been behind learners under instruction and they are in the wrong lanes!
I believe they don't have them in Germany though, and use a filter lane system instead which keeps traffic moving even better......

road shaping is got little to do with genius. The roundabout works well with good drivers in cities but in larger countries where people can drive for for miles before meeting a junction then the traffic lights must be safer.
A good thing about roundabouts is that then tune up your driving skills.
Another point about roundabouts in UK is you technically 'take a exit' 1,2,3 etc. it is a mistake to say go right at roundabout because you always turn left in UK.

"Keep To The Left" (or right, depending which country you're in) is a much more basic civilisation invention than roundabouts. No genius about either though. Common sense.

They are good on busy roundabouts. A roundabout near me was always busy - with queues. But since they installed part time traffic lights during peak times - it has helped a lot.

While I think they are a good idea I also think that people need to learn how to correctly use them. They help to keep traffic moving, but only when they are used as they should be meaning when you come to the yield sign do just that not follow the person in front of you this causes the other directions to wait and I'm sure makes the people waiting angry

Agree. A great idea.
Otherwise it is a free-for-all on busy roundabouts.
There seem to be so many around here, which keep the traffic flowing. But the only drawback are the people who run the lights. Grrrrrr!

Hardly genius but useful in situations of light to moderate traffic. Totally useless when traffic is heavy unless supplemented by traffic lights, in which case it might as well be removed and use the lights alone.

I think that they are annoying, and very difficult to negotiate with a big truck. Traffic circles are all over in Ohio and Indiana, and almost all of them are too small.

disagree, because if you have someone in the back of your car and they sneeze so loud and unexpectedly, that the driver gets such a fright, that he goes round and round the roundabout, and doesnt know which cut off to take, lol(,true story it happened to my brother).lol
