Did you know that in Mauritania there are still slaves? White, black, red, yellow, its an equal opportunity franchise. Almost every ancient culture took slaves when they warred against their neighbors. Skin color was incidental at best. Even the american indians took slaves, way before they had contact with "modern" culture. The people selling african slaves in the 16-1700's were the africans themselves. They raided other tribes for slave to sell and sometimes became slaves. There is no country or skin color responsible for slavery just greed.

it would be very difficult to prove that going back 1,000 years an ancestor was not a 'slave'. I use quotes simply to try and qualify the broadness of the term.

to prove that ones ancestors was not in 'slavery' would take a quantified record of ancestry that all relations were either merchant class or ruling class.

it is very true that in the last 1,000 years every ethnic background has been 'enslaved'

You might need at least 1500 or 2000 years to cover everybody.

I know some of my family tree, but not all. The ones I know did were not "owned" nor did they own slaves-- but that still leaves alot of people I don't know about...
