theres really no way to really.....avoid a miscarriage. i mean...what happens happens. You just have to know the signs of what and what to do in the event that you have one!!! If you start to have severe cramping along with bleeding (not just spotting) then call your doctor or go to the hospital ASAP!!! Otherwise..try not to think about it and try not to stress yourself out. Keep in mind that starting now, everything you feel--your baby is going to feel. So if you get stressed out so will your baby. Just stay relaxed and try to enjoy being pregnant as much as possible! Stay away from sushi..thats one thing i know is bad when your pregnant. And obviously smoking and drinking are big no-nos. Get lots of iron in your diet and lots of protein. That baby needs all it can get at this fital stage in its development! Good luck!!! Start taking your pretnatal vitamins. If they make you sick..one trick i got from my doctor was to take 2 flinstone vitamins a day instead of prenatal ones because they give you the same things as prenatal ones but they won't make you sick like a lot of the prenatal ones will!!!!
Congrats!!! Good luck with your little one! Try to enjoy being pregnant..its going to feel like its taking forever to get this baby but..trust me...being pregnant is the time to enjoy your last bit of free time! :D

Get a copy of What to Expect While You're Expecting. It is really a good book. There is a nutrition section. As far as miscarriage goes, my doctor told me at the beginning of my 1st pregnancy that if you are going to miscarry, there is nothing that they can do for you...usually because there is some kind of fatal genetic defect with the baby. So eat right, get enough sleep, exercise (walking and low impact stuff!) avoid alcohol and hottubs. And don't stress, panic or be afraid. This is a wonderful time...nausea and all!
Best of luck and congratulations! Being a mommy is the greatest thing in the whole world!!!

Wow, congratulations!!! You are going to be a mommy! I agree, see your Dr. for pre-natal instructions. You should eat a well-balanced diet (think food pyramid), avoid fish high in mercury (like salmon), avoid raw fish and meats, avoid non-pasteurized dairy products, avoid alcohol and tobacco, and do not drink too much caffeine. Your doctor will be able to provide you with a more detailed explanation, as well as prenatal vitamins which are really important. How exciting, I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and a happy baby!

Call your doctor and make an appointment. They will give you a list of medicines that you can and cannot take during pregnancy. They will also give you advice about nutrition and get you started on prenatal vitamins. You definitely shouldn't take aspirin during pregnancy, but other than that, there really isn't anything you can do to cause yourself to have a miscarriage, so just eat healthy and try not to worry about that. Good luck and congrats!

You really can't avoid miscarriage. But get yourself on prenatal vitamins, and try not to do heavy lifting, and of course the obvious, no smoking or drinking, but miscarriage happens even when mother's think they are doing everything right.

Try this site:

It has a lot of great info, but be aware that sometimes miscarriages happen, usually because there's a problem with the baby. Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of yourself! Take prenatal vitamins, avoid foods like sushi, undercooked meats, and alcohol, and drink lots of water and get lots of rest. Good luck!

First of all, congratulations!! I wish you a very healthy and happy pregnancy!!
I have heard it a lot that you're not supposed to eat Tuna Fish while pregnant. But that didn't stop me. I don't know why you're not supposed to eat it, but it never harmed me. Things that you normally eat shouldn't hurt you any. You don't want to eat raw eggs though, (e.g. uncooked cookie dough, uncooked cake mix, anything uncooked containing eggs.)
Drink lots of water & lots of milk.

Judging from your question, my answer is you need to really think about if you are ready for this type of thing in your life. You sound young and unsure, make sure you can provide for this life you are about to create. Can you provide a stable and HAPPY life for this child, dont be greedy and raise a child to your standards. Look around at your house/apartment and your life, if your were able to pick your parents when you were born, would you pick you?

I agree with Allyn there, but I would add to that list to get some prenatals you can buy them at any pharmacy.
The book "what to expect when expecting" was my lifesaver, very good info.
Other websites are pregnancyweekly.com they send you weekly newsletters and I also like webmd.com
Congrats to you and take care.

MOST IMPORTANT TAKE YOUR PRENATAL VITAMINS. STAY AWAY FROM CAT LITTER, DELI MEATS, CAFFEINE AND STRESS. PRAY FOR YOUR HEALTH AND THE BABIES AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE. I WORRIED ALL THE TIME TOO. I HAVE A HEALTHY 8 MONTH OLD BOY.
