How about just low income housing for elderly people, regardless of their sexual preference. Being gay should not afford anyone special treatment any more than being straight should.

I agree that it is a good as gay partnerships are not legally recognized. Wouldn't you want to grow old with your partner? Also, citing from the article"According to a recent study by the University of California, Los Angeles, the city has a gay population of 442,000 -- the second highest in the United States after New York." So this is only a solution for areas with large lgbt communities.
Also, to quote from the article "about a third of the units will be set aside for low-income older Americans with HIV/ AIDS, those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless." That is also great news, as it means we are respecting and protecting our elders.
"All parties went into this development with the belief that regardless of a senior's income, race or sexual preference they are entitled to live in a decent, safe and friendly living environment," said Tony Salazar of developers McCormack Baron Salazar.

What I find wrong here is the fact that gays and lesbians or "same sex couples" can't share living facilities. Most of these complexes state that ONLY MARRIED couples can share an apartment.
That is discrimination.....whether you are gay or not.
America is about 50 years behind the rest of the world with it's pseudo-christian, radical religious practices and it's inability to KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR BEDROOMS.

Good idea, yes, as long as it does not involved personal income tax funds. If the government will be subsidizing this effort it should come from corporate taxes.

Why would elderly gay people be any different than elderly people in general? Let's not start gay ghettos.

As a baby boomer, I have to say I would like to see a lot more "communal" living arrangements. We can't afford our prescriptions or groceries. People are going to have to start banning together in order to exist. Put people of like interests together.

Why should the government be responsible for housing anyone. Take responsibility for yourself. Don't discriminate just for gays..
