Somebody told me that, among the currently richest people in the world, many aren't especially smart, some made it without an inheritance, most of them without inventing a world-transforming technology (such as steam engines, electric power, computers, etc.,), and some weren't even young when they started getting rich! Tell me: Definitely no way, or maybe SOME way?

What exactly is "unusual" luck? Was World War II an instance of unusual luck in that it allowed some farmers and food distributors (including J.R. Simplot) to make millions off of government contracts?

Absolutely Yes! The key word here is Determination. When a person, any person, has the drive and the mindset to change their situation, they will find ways to make deals with people and do what it takes to get ahead.
I have a representative who started out with absolutely nothing, but was willing to make a deal. She "saw" the big picture and knew she would find a way to raise the investment, which was just under $200 USD. She approached me and offered to earn her way into getting started by finding me clients. I saved the profits from those clients until she had enough to get started, which was mere days. She then purchased her own business and hit the ground running. I am very proud of her and invest a great deal of time teaching her how to keep her vision alive.
A great success story!

Jewel did it.....she was living in her car when she recorded her first song.

In 1993, Flea of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers met Jewel after he saw her perform at a local cafe. He went back to her van where she was living, where she sang a few of her songs to him. He described her singing voice as being "beautiful" and "breathtaking". It was at these coffeehouse appearances that she was discovered by Atlantic Records. She cut her debut album, Pieces of You, when she was nineteen and it was released in 1995. The album stayed on the Billboard 200 for an impressive two years, reaching number four at its peak. The album spawned the Top 10 hits "You Were Meant for Me", "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games." The album was a huge success and eventually sold over 12 million copies in the U.S. alone, more than all of her subsequent albums put together.

p.s - if you're moderately smart get involved in investing/passive trading once you have any sort of disposable income. Van Tharp. Look him up. research markets. be careful.
