Kind of a dumb question , I realize that demographics and where a person lives has very little factor in their happiness , happiness comes from within . But Iv'e always felt that Californians are happier . I realize that we can run away from our problems , but we cannot hide .

It's ok, but California is not as fun and happy as it used to be back in the 70s and 80s. From what I've noticed, it's becoming conservative particularly in the smaller cities and towns. If you want a happy liberal California, you will have to stick to the big cities like SFO, LA, SD, SJ etc.

California is a huge state. I have lived here all my life and I can tell you that in some parts of CA that is absolutely true. Anywhere near the coastline in CA people seem happier and more calm. I moved recently from central CA to the bay area (near San Fransisco) and people here seem more free thinking and less concerned with what everyone else is doing. Southern CA is pretty much the CA you see on TV everyone's at the beach allot, the movie stars the night clubs etc. Central CA Modesto to Bakersfield could easily become it's own state and no one would notice the difference. That's the area where I grew up and people there are far more up tight and conservative. It's mostly farm land and most people are poor so there is a allot of tension and stress. The only other area where I can say CA people seem happier is in the mountain regions of CA. But, and no one get mad at me for saying this I lived there a year too and it's true, allot of the mountain towns in CA are either backward redneck towns or Hippie pot smoking towns. However there are some good areas near Tahoe if you like the snow. I hope that breaks it down for you.

I hate CA. I've lived in SoCal all my life and find that most people are shallow, narrow minded, and self absorbed. I've been to many other states and the people are sooo nice and friendly. Forget saying hello to a stranger here. They'll look at you like you're an alien and/or flip you off. There are pretty areas in Northern CA though. Also, it is too liberal and we are raped by taxes. It's kinda sad when the people on welfare and live in section 8 houses drive escalades and have big screen tv's that you essentially bought when you are struggling to pay your bills. Yet, the liberals want to raise taxes for more social programs. I am leaving as soon as I can to Montana where the air is clean and I can have lots of land, peace and quite, no liberal BS, and will be MUCH happier.

Yes we are happier. I can surf in the morning and ski at night. We are more healthier that the rest of the country and per capita we have more money.

The downside is if you don't have money or a good job out here you will be pretty unhappy.

I don't know about happier, but they are definilty braver. I lived on the East Coast where we had hurricanes and in the midwest where we had tornadoes, but Californians have wild fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, volacanoes and God knows what else. That has to say something.
