1) Getting sick from being outside in the rain or cold.
2) You should avoid eating sugar when you are sick.
I would also appreciate contributions of additional silly wives tales that people stubbornly believe.

My uncle would always tell us that if you ate a watermelon seed, a watermelon would grow in your stomach.
My grandma told my mother that if she ate the crusts of her bread, she would get curly hair.

You can only get sick if you catch a virus, not from being outside. I've heard that coffee stunting growth is an old wives tale but it's actually true except it applies to any caffeinated drink. Too much caffeine blocks the absorption of calcium which can lead to stunted growth or osteoporosis.
I also heard that if you scare a baby at a certain time of the day their heart will stop resulting in death. That is so not true!
And that if your left palm itches you will soon fall into some money. If your right palm itches you're going to meet someone new. Both my palms have itched before and neither of these things happened!

1) My mother would always get mad if we were out in the rain saying that we would get sick. I think we were mostly sick of her saying that cuz it rarely happened!
2)Never heard of that one
How about
If you drop silverware that means somebody is coming over for dinner. Spoon for girl Fork for guy whichever way they land is the direction they are coming from.
Death comes in threes
Bad news comes in Threes
Never own a cat when u have an infant cuz they will steal the baby's breath - most cats I know are frightened of babies so this would be hard.
Never put ur shoes on the table its bad luck
If you spill salt throw it over ur shoulder or u will have bad luck
( I get most of these from my mother- I think she thought everything was bad luck)

it is true, we dont actually get sick from the cold, but not keeping our bodies warm enough, makes our emmune systems more vulnerable to colds and stuff, so ye, keepig warm and dry is a gd idea...plus, its not v. nice to be cold and wet.
The sugar one is just not true, i dont think.....cos firstly, sugar doesnt cause illness (unless u think about diabetes or something like that) but, we should always avoid eating extra sugar (ecept if its doc's orders, of course) cos there is more than enough sugars in foods naturally. Exra sugar is BAD for us any day, not jsut hwen we r sick.

My mom has always told me 1. I've never heard of two.
I love Friday the 13th tales, Bloody Mary, knowing if your baby is going to be a boy or girl ones and the penny thing.
Here's a great site of urban legends and superstitions:

I was just looking at it, it's really cool.

My personal fave is that cats will lie on your chest when you sleep and "steal your breath" in effect killing you.
My FIL actually told me this once. *pfffff*
As for 1 and 2, 1 can make sense if you become exhausted or whatever from being in adverse conditions. 2 I've never even heard of - but NOT eating sugar is probably a good thing especially for people like me who live on it.

When your nose itches someone is thinking of you.
If you make a face it will stick that way.
